Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener, 15-9 at Southern Virginia

Buena Vista, VA (February 23, 2019) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener, 15-9, at Southern Virginia University in non-conference action on Saturday morning.

How it Happened
  • DeSales was sluggish out of the gates falling behind 7-1 before finishing the first-half with two straight goals to get within 9-4 at the break.
  • The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the second-half scoring the first two goals and four of the first five to pull within two (10-8) but were unable to complete the comeback as S. Va., scored three straight and five of the last six to post the final tally.

  • Sophomore Eilis McCall finished with four goals to lead the scoring.
  • Freshman Azlin Myers had two goals and two assists and won a team-high seven draw controls.
  • Sophomore Katie Stordy added two goals and had a team-high nine ground balls.

  • Sophomore Rachel Sheubrooks made 12 saves in goals.

  • Megan Barfuss led S. Virginia with two goals and five assists.
