Birmelin Reaches 1,000; Walsh Posts Career-High Leading #13/16 DeSales Past Manhattanville, 71-40

Box Score Purchase, NY (Februray 6, 2019) - Senior Morgan Birmelin scored her 1,000th point and fellow senior Bridget Walsh exploded for a career-high 26 points leading the #13/16 DeSales University women's basketball team past Manhattanville College, 71-40, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

  • The win is DSU's 15th straight one shy of tying the all-time record of 16 straight wins.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs never trailed in this one and extended an early four point lead to 12 with a 10-2 run late in the first quarter.
  • The Valiants got within four points (24-20) at the 4:58 mark of the second quarter before DSU held the Valiants to just two points over the final 4:58 and took a 32-22 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • A slow start to the third quarter by both teams saw the Bulldogs finish the quarter on an 18-5 run pushing a 10-point advantage to a 23 point lead (52-29) and DSU never looked back in the fourth quarter.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Walsh netted her career-high shooting 13-for-16 from the field and added eight rebounds and three blocks.
  • Birmelin scored her 1,000th point with just one minute left in the game totaling six points but added a game-high 10 assists and swiped five steals.
  • Sophomore Isabel Caruso also reached double digits with 10 points.

  • The Valiants were led by Kayleah McGuire with eight points.
