Center Valley, PA (March 16, 2019) - The DeSales University softball team opened up its MAC Freedom schedule with two walk-off wins over King's College on a windy Saturday afternoon at McGettigan Park.
Game One (W/6-5 - 8 Innings vs. King's)
The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 after two and a half innings before two runs in the bottom of the third put DSU up 3-2. The lead was 5-3 entering the seventh inning when King's got two runs in the top of the frame to tie the game at five.
After DSU went quietly in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Monarchs put runners on second and third with no one out in the top of the eighth inning but were unable to score after a line out, fly out to left field, and another line out to third base.
DeSales took advantage and after a two-out walk, sophomoreÂ
Hallie Muffley knocked in the game-winning run with a deep single to rightfield playing pinch runner, freshmanÂ
Gianna D'Acunto.
SophomoreÂ
Julia Testagrose earned the win pitching out of that eighth inning jam. Muffley went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and juniorÂ
Erin Redden was 2-for-3 with four runs scored.
Game Two (W/2-1 vs. King's)
King's scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning and continued to lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bulldogs got a one-out double from Muffley, an RBI single from freshmanÂ
Heather Hall tying the game at one, and two more singles from D'Acunto and sophomoreÂ
Caitlin Miller plating the game-winner.
Hall earned the win allowing just one run over seven innings, striking out four. Hall was also 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley University in another MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
