Quick Start Leads Baseball past Wilkes, 11-4, in Series Opener

Kingston, PA (March 29, 2019) - The DeSales University baseball team scored 10 runs over the first four innings and never looked back in an 11-4 win over Wilkes University in the first of three games this weekend with the Colonels on Friday afternoon.

  • Final Score: DeSales - 11, Wilkes - 4
  • Records: DeSales (8-10, 5-2 MAC Freedom); Wilkes (6-11, 3-4 MAC Freedom)
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the first inning on two hit batters and RBI hits from senior Charlie Barebo, sophomore Sean Hanczaryk, and senior Nick White.
  • DSU added four more runs in the second inning as Hanczaryk, Barebo, senior Preston Amato, and freshman Johnny Medina all had RBI hits.
  • Wilkes got within four with one run in the second and two in the third but DSU put the game away early with three more runs in the fourth on RBI hits from junior Michael White, . White, and sophomore Cody Mish.
  • Junior John Poccia did the rest tossing eight strong innings allowing just seven hits and three earned runs, striking out nine.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Evan Plummer went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the leadoff spot.
  • Barebo had two hits and three RBIs and Amato scored twice.
  • Hanczaryk had two hits and two RBIs in his return, Mish had two hits, and N. White was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
For the Foes
  • Jonah Harder had two hits in the loss for the Colonels.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs out-hit Wilkes, 15-9.
  • DSU had six walks and were hit by a pitch twice, while DeSales only walked one and hit just one batter for the game.
