Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2019) - Senior
Nick White hit an RBI single in bottom of the eighth inning of game two helping the DeSales University baseball team earn a split of its MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday with Wilkes University at Weiland Park.
Game One (L/3-4 - 8 innings)
Wilkes took a 2-1 lead after one inning and led 3-1 into the sixth when freshman
Isaiah Goodman hit a pinch-hit two-run home run to centerfield tying the game at three.
After both teams went scoreless in the seventh, Wilkes scratched home a run in the top of the eighth and the Bulldogs went quietly in the bottom half ending the game.
Freshman
Will Manley took the loss despite pitching a strong 3 1/3 innings allowing one hit and striking out three. DSU had just four hits in the game.
Game Two (W/2-1 - 8 innings)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when senior
Charlie Barebo hit an RBI single plating junior
Evan Plummer.
The Colonels got the run back in the fifth and neither team was able to score again as the game headed into extra innings for the second straight contest.
After DeSales set down Wilkes in the top of the eighth, junior
Michael White and freshman
Johnny Medina put runners at first and third with one out and N. White came thru with an RBI single into left-center field scoring the game-winning run.
Senior
Austin Kroeger earned the win pitching 1 2/3 strong innings of relief, striking out two. Senior
Felix Martinez Jr. also pitched well allowing just four hits and one run over 6 1/3 innings, striking out three.
N. White, Medina, and Plummer each had two hits in the win.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Ursinus College beginning at 3:30 pm.
