Baseball Sweeps DH at FDU-Florham and Weekend Series with Devils

Montclair, NJ (April 13, 2019) - The DeSales University baseball team completed a weekend sweep of FDU-Florham taking both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday afternoon by scores of 11-2 and 9-2.

Game One (W/11-2)
The Devils led 2-0 after scoring in both the first and second inning before DeSales tied the game at two in the third on an RBI double from senior Charlie Barebo and a sacrifice fly from senior Preston Amato.

The game remained tied at two into the sixth when the Bulldogs broke it open with five runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.  Senior Nick White provided the exclamation point, hitting a three-run home run in the seventh to give DSU a 10-2 lead.  It was also the 100th hit of his career.

Sophomore Ian Kacergis earned the win tossing seven strong innings allowing eight hits and two earned runs, striking out four.  Barebo had two hits, N. White finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, sophomore Cody Mish had two hits and two runs scored, and junior Evan Plummer finished with two hits.

Game Two (W/9-2)
DSU scored three times in the first inning and led 3-2 after one frame after FDU scored twice in the bottom half.

It was still a one-run game into the fourth when the Bulldogs again took control late scoring once in the fourth, three times in the fifth, and twice in the sixth to run away from the Devils.

Barebo, Amato, junior Sergio Diaz, and freshman Johnny Medina all had two hits in the win.  Diaz added four RBIs including a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Freshman JJ Paul earned the win going five innings allowing one earned run, striking out two.  Senior Felix Martinez Jr. pitched two scoreless in relief.

The Bulldogs are off on both Sunday and Monday and will return to action on Tuesday when they host Rutgers-Camden beginning at 5:00 pm.
