Softball Sweeps Eastern to Clinch Spot in MAC Freedom Postseason

St. David's, PA (April 18, 2019) - The DeSales University softball team swept both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader by scores of 7-5 and 8-0 at Eastern University on Thursday afternoon to clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament in two weeks.

Game One (W/7-5)
Eastern led 4-2 thru five innings before DeSales rallied scoring four times in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead.  Sophomore Aubree Fritzinger had a two-run double and sophomore Reilly Kerr and sophomore Hallie Muffley also RBIs in the inning.

Sophomore Julia Testagrose did the rest allowing just two runs over 4 2/3 innings pitched to earn the win in the circle, striking out three.

Fritzinger led the offensive attack with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.  Kerr also had two hits and two RBIs, while sophomore Samanthan Napoli and sophomore Ciarrah Holmqvist also had two hits each.

Game Two (W/8-0)
This one was all Bulldogs as DSU scored three times in the first thanks in part to a two-run single from Muffley, once in the second on an RBI single from Kerr, three times in the fourth on RBIs from Kerr, Muffley, and sophomore Kristen Suran, and one more time in the fifth.

Freshman Heather Hall was almost perfect as she allowed just one hit and two runners to reach base to earn her sixth win of the season.

Fritzinger was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, junior Erin Redden was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and Kerr and Muffley each had three RBIs in the game two win.

DSU clinches a spot in the post season for the second straight year and the 11th time in team history.
