Women's Lacrosse Finishes Strong in 20-11 Win at Wilkes

Edwardsville, PA (April 24, 2019) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team finished the game on a 10-1 run to earn a 20-11 win over Wilkes University in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 20, Wilkes - 11
  • Records: DeSales - 9-4 (4-2 MAC Freedom); Wilkes (6-8, 0-6 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs control their own destiny heading into Saturday's regular season finale vs. Eastern University needing just a win to clinch the #3 seed and DSU's first-ever MAC Freedom postseason appearance.
How it Happened
  • DSU trailed 5-3 early before finishing the half on a 4-1 run to take a 7-6 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • The start of the second-half was back-and-forth as the game was tied at 10 with just under 21 minutes left.
  • The Bulldogs then scored six straight goals to take a 16-10 lead and out-scored the Colonels 10-1 over the final 19:40 to earn the important conference win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Katie Stordy was once again dominant on the draw inning 14 draw controls and adding three goals and four ground balls.
  • Freshman Azlin Myers (3g, 2a) and sophomore Julia Astram (5g) each had five points in the win.
  • Freshman Karlie Deeck finished with two goals, seven ground balls, and five draw controls and an assist and junior Alyssa Mantzouranis had two goals.
  • Freshman Alexandra Berdej scored once.
  • Sophomore Rachel Sheubrooks and senior Lori King combined to make eight saves in goal.
For the Foes
  • Camryn Devitt had four goals and one assist.
  • Kyra Boccio finished with one goal and three assists and Ashley Burkhardt had three goals.
  • Sarah Carlini made 22 saves in between the pipes.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales out-shot Wilkes, 46-23, while the Colonels had a 33-29 edge in ground balls.
  • DSU won 24-33 of draw controls.
  • Wilkes had 29 turnovers and was just 16-for-32 in clear attempts.
