Men's Lacrosse Suffers First Loss of Season, 10-7 at Eastern

St. David's, PA (April 27, 2019) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season falling 10-7 at Eastern University in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Eastern - 10, DeSales - 7
  • Records: DeSales (15-1, 6-1 MAC Freedom); Eastern (11-6, 7-0 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs finish the regular season as the #2 seed and will host Misericordia University in the MAC Freedom semifinals on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
How it Happened
  • DeSales started quickly opening up a 2-0 lead as freshman Tom Connors scored twice.
  • Eastern responded scoring six straight goals, including four to end the half with a 4-2 halftime lead and two more to start the third quarter to take a 6-2 lead with 11:41 left in the third quarter.
  • The Bulldogs then scored five of the next six goals, tying the game on a goal from sophomore Matt Motto with 14:14 left in the game.
  • The Eagles reclaimed the lead at 12:20 and held DSU scoreless the rest of the way adding two more goals late to post the final margin.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Connors finished with three goals to lead the scoring attack.
  • Junior Justin Monaghan, Motto, senior Joe Neggia, and junior Matt Brown all each scored once for the Bulldogs.
  • Sophomore Zach Bowen, freshman Kai Taylor, and Brown all had assists.
  • Junior Frank Krug had five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Senior Matt Barry made 10 saves in between the pipes.
For the Foes
  • Trent Ashton and Colin Piper each had two goals and one assist.
  • Sean Fechter had one goal and two assists.
  • Zach Bauer won 13-of-14 face-offs and Chris Durning had 13 ground balls.
  • Brett McDonald made nine saves in the cage.
