Field Hockey Falls in Second OT, 2-1, to William Paterson

Center Valley, PA (September 14, 2019) - The DeSales University field hockey team battled back to even the score in the second half but fell in the second overtime, 2-1, to William Paterson University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • WPU took the 1-0 lead at 28:55 when Shannon Super's shot rolled thru the DSU keeper staking the visitor's to a 1-0 lead.
  • DSU got the tying goal just 55 ticks into the fourth quarter when junior Hannah Williams found freshman Catie McGrath unmarked and in front of a wide open cage at 45:55.
  • Both teams had chances in the first OT including freshman Tyra Wingle 1-v-1 with the Pioneer keeper late in the first OT, but her blast was saved and cleared away.
  • William Paterson got the game-winner 1:50 into second extra session when two Pioneers broke free and were able to beat the keeper inside the far post for the game-winner.

  • McGrath's goal was her 5th of the season, moving her in a tie for the team lead in scoring with 11 points.
  • Williams earned her third assist of the season.
  • Senior Katarina Polyviou made six saves in the cage.
  • Senior Julia DeLuca had one defensive for the Bulldogs.

  • Super and Brianna Reyes each scored for the Pioneers.
