Field Hockey Drops Tight MAC Freedom Opener, 5-4, in OT at FDU-Florham

Center Valley, PA (September 28, 2019) - The DeSales University field hockey team dropped a tough 5-4 decision in OT in the MAC Freedom opener on homecoming vs. FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • DSU took a 1-0 lead late in the first quarter as freshman Allie Ball scored her first career goal.
  • The Devils answered with three straight goals to open the second quarter and the Bulldogs fought back to make it a one-goal game at the half as freshman Sarah Peterson scored with just 2:22 left in the half.
  • DeSales tied the game at three just 1:32 into the third quarter on Peterson's second tally but FDU reclaimed the lead in the 38th minute.
  • With just 45 seconds left in the third quarter the Bulldogs got the equalizer yet again on Ball's second goal of the game.
  • DeSales dominated the offensive end in the fourth quarter but was unable to score with the best chance coming late in the quarter by junior Hannah Williams.
  • FDU-Florham got the only shot off in OT scoring 4:23 into the extra session to leave Center Valley with a win the conference opener for both teams.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Peterson's tallies were the third and fourth of the year, while Ball scored her first two career goals in the loss.
  • Freshman Tyra Wingle, senior Madison Brader, and Williams all had assists for DeSales.
  • Senior Katarina Polyviou made five saves in the cage.
For the Foes
  • Haleigh Flukey had three of FDU's five goals.
  • Marie Pietracatella and Jessica Pietracatelle scored the other two Devil goals.
  • Magan March made four saves.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales had a 19-11 advantage in shots and owned a 14-6 advantage in the second-half and OT.
  • The Bulldogs also dominated penalty corners holding a 17-5 edge.

  • DSU will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they host Gwynedd-Mercy University in a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
