Volleyball Splits Two Defeating Brandeis and Falling to Connecticut College

New London, CT (September 6, 2019) - The DeSales University volleyball team opened up its weekend trip to Connecticut with a split of two matches Friday evening defeating Brandeis University (3-1) and falling to host Connecticut College (0-3).

Match #1 (W/3-1 vs. Brandeis)
DSU took each of the first two sets, 25-18, before dropping a tight third set, 25-22.  Tied at 13 in the fourth, the Bulldogs scored seven of the next eight points to take a 20-14 lead and held on from there to earn the win over Brandeis.

Freshman Diane Pugay led the attack with 14 kills and hit .444 for the match.  Senior Morghan Shoemaker finished with nine kills and had three aces and junior Grace Merritt totaled a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.  Sophomore Audrey Wolfe handed out 41 assists and senior Cristal Fernandez had 32 digs in the win.

Match #2 (L/0-3 vs. Connecticut College)
The Bulldogs seemed to lose some steam in the second match of the day against a fresh Connecticut College team playing its first match of the year as the hosts won in straight sets, 25-16, 25-12, 25-16.

Shoemaker led the attack with four kills and one block.  Fernandez tallied 12 digs in the loss.

The Bulldogs are right back to action tomorrow when they travel to The Coast Guard Academy for two more matches against Coast Guard and Tufts University.
