Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 11, 2020) - The #18/20 DeSales University women's basketball team suffered its first MAC Freedom loss since the 2018 MAC Freedom championship game falling at King's College, 55-54, on Saturday afternoon in Scandlon Gymnasium.

- The loss snaps a streak of 17 straight wins for the Bulldogs over MAC Freedom competition dating back to the championship game of the 2018 season.
How it Happened
- This game was back and forth the entire way as neither team ever held more than an 8-point lead.
- DSU opened the game with two 3's around a jumper from sophomore Averi Jordan to take an 8-2 lead and a Jordan jumper with 24 seconds left in the quarter gave DSU a 16-14 first-quarter lead.
- Neither team led by more than three points the entire second quarter and the Monarchs finished the half with a short jumper from Mackenzie Yori and a free throw to take a 29-28 lead into the locker room.
- A tie game at 34 at the five minute mark of the third quarter saw DSU use a 6-0 run to take a 40-34 lead and the Bulldogs led by four (42-38) after three quarters.
- The lead grew to the largest of the game (eight points) early in the fourth quarter and a three from Jordan at the 5:46 mark put DSU up 49-43.
- King's took advantage of DSU getting into fourth quarter foul trouble and methodically cut into the margin at the line pulling within one (50-49) with 4:08 to go.
- It was still a one-point game at 3:45 when Yori hit a pull-up jumper with 3:07 to go to give King's its first second-half lead (53-52).
- Neither team scored over the next two minutes before sophomore Samantha Shinkus hit a driving lay-up to put the Bulldogs up one (54-53) with 1:13 left.
- The Bulldogs got a stop but suffered a shot clock violation on the next possession as the Monarch got the ball with 15 seconds left.
- Out of a timeout, Emily Kriston, hit a driving floater with eight seconds left giving the Monarchs a 55-54 lead and the Bulldogs were unable to hit the game-winner as time expired.
Top Bulldog Performers
- Jordan and Shinkus were both fantastic on the offensive end accounting for 43 of DSU's 54 points.
- Jordan led the charge with 23 tallies on 10-of-19 shooting and added 15 rebounds.
- Shinkus finished with 20 points, 16 in the first-half.
For the Foes
- Kriston led King's with 16 points and Samantha Rajza had 15 points.
- Yori finished with 11 points.
- Rebecca Prociak finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
- Jordan and Shinkus shot 19-for-38 (50.0%), while the rest of the Bulldogs hit just 3-for-31 (9.6%) from the field.
- The Bulldogs defense held King's to just 29.0 percent shooting from the field.
