Big Second-Half Comeback Falls just Short in 72-67 Loss at Stevens

Hoboken, NJ (January 22, 2020) - The DeSales University men's basketball team used a 20-5 run late in the second-half to get within one point but but were unable to climb all the way back seeing its eight-game win streak come to an end 72-67 at Stevens Institute of Technology in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

  • The loss snaps DSU's eight-game win streak and moves the Bulldogs into a three-way tie for first in the MAC Freedom with Stevens and Eastern.
How it Happened
  • Stevens was hot to start the game opening up a 13-2 lead and led by 12 (16-4) 3:14 into the game.
  • DSU scored six straight mid-way thru the quarter to get within six points (18-12) and trailed by just five at the 3:34 mark before the Ducks took a 33-24 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • SIT continued to lead by nine at the 11:54 mark when the hosts used an 11-2 run to take a 57-39 lead with 7:51 to go, its largest of the game.
  • DSU continued to trail by 16 points (61-45) at the 5:28 mark when the Bulldogs used a 20-5 run over the span of 4:28 to get within one point (66-65) with 59 seconds left.
  • Out of a timeout DeSales had possesion but a turnover gave the ball back to the Ducks.
  • SIT turned the ball on its possession and the Bulldogs had a second chance to take the lead but a second straight turnover forced DSU into fouling and SIT hit 6-for-6 from the line over the final 19 seconds to ice the win.

  • Junior Mike Bealer led Bulldogs with a team-high 19 points, hitting 5 3's.
  • Senior Ben Pratt finished with 14 points and added seven dimes and four steals.
  • Senior Kweku Dawson-Amoah added 12 points off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Spencer Cook had a game-high 25 points to lead all scorers.
  • Kevin Florio added 12 points and Dylan Walsh had 10 points.
