#25 Women's Basketball Wins Ninth Straight, 70-50, over Stevens

Center Valley, PA (February 12, 2020) - The #25 DeSales University women's basketball team out-scored Stevens, 39-18, in the second-half earning its ninth straight win, 70-50, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Basics

  • Records: DeSales (18-4, 10-1 MAC Freedom); Stevens (8-14, 5-6 MAC Freedom)
  • The win clinches a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament, DSU's 23rd straight appearance in the conference postseason, as the Bulldogs are tied with Misericordia University for the top seed.
  • Early in the day, the Bulldogs found out they are ranked #3 in the first installment of the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region regional rankings released this afternoon.
How it Happened
  • DSU had control early scoring the first seven points of the game and holding Stevens scoreless for the first 4:18.
  • The lead was nine (13-4) before settling for a four-point advantage after one quarter.
  • The second quarter was back-and-forth the entire time as the Ducks chipped away at the lead, taking three separate one-point advantages, with the last coming with nine seconds left in the half as the Ducks led 32-31 at the break.
  • Stevens led by three early in the third quarter when consecutive fast break layups from freshman Megan Bealer started a 16-4 run over the final 7:58 of the third quarter giving DSU control of the game and a 49-40 lead after three quarters of play.
  • The lead swelled to 14 early in the fourth quarter and DeSales never looked back after that earning its ninth straight victory on the season.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Rylie Rittenhouse was outstanding off the bench scoring a game-high 17 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
  • Sophomore Averi Jordan added 13 points and Bealer was excellent with 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • Senior Molly Jansco finished with seven points and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks.
  • Sophomore Samantha Shinkus and freshman Maria Newsome each had eight points.
For the Foes
  • Emily Nunez scored all 12 of her points in the first-half.
  • Jess Broad also finished with 12 points and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales had a 12-2 advantage in fast break points and scored 18 points off 18 Duck turnovers.
  • Stevens was just 5-for-29 from outside the arc, going 0-for-14 in the second-half.
  • The Bulldogs shot 40.0 percent from the field and held the Ducks to just 26.3 percent shooting for the game.
