Defense Carries #25 DeSales past Misericordia, 74-46

Dallas, PA (February 15, 2020) - The #25 DeSales University women's basketball held Misericordia University to just 28.0 percent shooting sweeping the season series with a 74-46 win in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

  • The game was a battle between the two teams tied for first place in the MAC Freedom as DeSales now takes sole possession of the top spot with the win and the season sweep of the Cougars.
  • DSU is now one win shy of clinching the top seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.
  • The win is the Bulldogs 10th straight this season.
How it Happened
  • The Cougars scored the first five points of the game but it was all DeSales after that.
  • The Bulldogs used an 18-0 run over the span of 5:35 to take an 18-5 lead and led 22-10 after one quarter.
  • DeSales pushed its lead up to 16 points (33-17) with 3:31 left in the first-half and continued to lead by 16 on a three from junior Isabel Caruso with 20 seconds left at the half.
  • DSU opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 48-22 lead and never looked back from there.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Samantha Shinkus finished with a game-high 19 points, hitting three 3's.
  • Sophomore Rylie Rittenhouse and senior Molly Jansco each added 14 points, shooting 12-for-21 from the field together.
  • Freshman Megan Bealer was also in double digits, hitting two 3's, for 10 points.
For the Foes
  • Tessa Zamolyi was the lone double digit scorer for the Cougars with 18 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales shot 40+ percent in all four quarters and finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the field.
  • The Bulldogs also hit 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) from outside the arc.
  • DSU had just nine turnovers and forced 23 Cougar miscues scoring 25 points off the MU mistakes.
