Men's Lacrosse Wins Home Opener, 17-9, over Susquehanna

Center Valley, PA ( February 20, 2020) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored the first six goals of the game and cruised the rest of the way winning its 2020 home opener, 17-9, over Susquehanna University on Thursday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 17, Susquehanna - 9
  • Records: DeSales (1-1 overall); Susquehanna (0-2 overall)
  • The win is DSU's program record 11th straight win at home dating back to last season.
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs scored the first six goals of the game to open up a 6-0 lead thru one quarter with the last goal coming at the buzzer when junior Vince Maria threw a long shot from the defensive end at the buzzer and the Susquehanna goalie let the ball trickle into the net as the buzzer sounded.
  • The River Hawks got two of the first three goals in the second quarter before DSU scored five straight to take a 12-2 lead and led 13-3 at the half.
  • The second half was back-and-forth the entire way will SU scored the final two goals of the game to post the final tally as DSU cruised to the win over the final 30 minutes.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Zach Bowen led the Bulldogs with four goals and had five ground balls.
  • Sophomore Kai Taylor and senior Justin Monaghan each had three goals and one assist.
  • Sophomore Tom Connors and junior Matt Motto each had two goals and one helper and Connors added six ground balls.
  • Maria and freshman Beau Neff each scored once and senior Eric Magro and sophomore Sean Wiser both had assists.
  • Senior Frank Krug had seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Chase Yoder finished 13-for-38 in face-offs and had eight ground balls.
  • Senior Vincent Groelly made six saves.
For the Foes
  • Preston Ouellette had two goals and Jake Turner finished with two goals and one assist.
  • Jack Harper totaled one goal and two assists.
  • Joe Avquaviva made 10 saves in goal.
  • Jacob Fox had nine ground balls and five caused turnovers.
