Harrisonburg, VA (February 22, 2020) - The DeSales University baseball team settled for a doubleheader split at Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday winning game one, 11-0, before dropping game two, 7-6, in nine innings.
Game One (W/11-0)
SeniorÂ
John Poccia had his second straight strong outing tossing a complete-game shutout allowing eight hits and walking just two over seven inninings, striking out five to improve to 2-0 on the year.
DSU scored once in the first, twice in the second, and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead and blew the game open in the fifth scoring four times before posting the final tally.

Robby Lamm went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, juniorÂ
Cody Mish had three hits and an RBI, and seniorÂ
Michael White, senior
Sergio Diaz, and sophomoreÂ
Dillon Drew all had two hits in the win. Drew scored twice and also knocked in two runs. SophomoreÂ
Jimmy Beaky scored twice.
Game Two (L/6-7 - 9 innings)
DSU was one strike away from a DH sweep when EMU tied the game with a two-out double in the seventh and won the game in the ninth.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double from juniorÂ
Sean Hanczaryk but trailed 4-3 heading into the fifth inning. DeSales put two on the board in the fifth on a two-RBI triple from freshmanÂ
Thomas Carpenter and added a solo home run by Lamm in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.
EMU put its first two batters on in the bottom of the seventh inning on a base hit and error by Beaky in left field. After getting a pop out and strike out, sophomoreÂ
Zac Vittorelli was down to one strike to end the game but a two-strike RBI double off the wall tied the game and EMU won it in the ninth.
FreshmanÂ
Ryan Rieber pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Bulldogs. Lamm had three more hits, scored twice, and had two RBIs to lead the offense.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they take on Bridgewater College for two more games.
