Baseball Falls at Southwestern, 7-5

Georgetown, TX (March 9, 2020) - The DeSales University baseball team was unable to hold onto a late one-run lead falling at Southwestern University, 7-5, on day two of its spring trip to San Antonio, TX on Monday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Southwestern - 7, DeSales - 5
  • Records: DeSales (4-6 overall); Southwestern (6-6 overall)
How it Happened
  • Trailing 1-0 DSU tied the game at one in the top of the second inning on a bases loaded walk by sophomore Jimmy Beaky.
  • SW reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth but the Bulldogs took a 4-2 advantage with three runs in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Beaky, and RBI singles from seniors Sergio Diaz and Michael White.
  • Southwestern tied the game at four with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but once again DeSales had the answer scoring once in the top of the eighth to take a 5-4 lead on two Southwestern errors.
  • SW had the answer though scoring three times in the bottom of the eighth and this time DSU was unable to counter.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Freshman Thomas Carpenter, Diaz, White, and junior Sean Hanczaryk all had two hits in the loss.
  • Junior Ian Kacergis started and lasted 4 2/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits.
  • Senior Ryan Passaro took the loss allowing three runs and three hits over 2/3 of an inning.
For the Foes
  • S. Sparks and H. Craig each had three hits as the 1-2-3 hitters for Southwestern went a combined 8-for-15 with five RBIs and six runs scored.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales drew 11 walks but left 14 men on-base.

  • The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday night when they take on Texas Lutheran University beginning at 7:00 pm.
