Baseball Opens Trip to Texas with DH Sweep at Schreiner

Kerrville, TX (March 8, 2020) - The DeSales University baseball team opened up its spring trip to San Antonio, TX with a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon.

Game One (W/5-2)
The Bulldogs once again rode senior John Poccia who fired his second straight complete-game allowing two runs over seven innings scattering seven hits and striking out three.

DSU took a 5-0 lead scoring once in the second on an RBI double from sophomore Brandon DiChiacchio, twice in the third on an RBI single from junior Cody Mish and Schreiner error, and twice more in the fourth on a two-RBI triple from sophomore Robby Lamm.

Schreiner got its two runs in the sixth but that was it as Poccia only allowed three runners to reach second base in the other six innings.

Mish and junior Sean Hanczaryk each had two hits in the game one win.

Game Two (W/8-0)
Freshman Tom Berg III was impressive in his first collegiate start tossing five shutout innings allowing just four hits and striking out two to earn his first win.  Sophomore Will Manley fired two shutout innings in relief to finish up the shutout win.

DSU took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a two-RBI single from senior Frank Licari Jr. and added solo runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-0 lead.  The Bulldogs then broke it open with four runs in the seventh on an RBI double from DiChiacchio and two RBI single from Thomas Carpenter.

Senior Sergio Diaz, senior Michael White, and Carpenter all had two hits and senior Evan Plummer finished with three hits in the game two win.

The Bulldogs are right back to action tomorrow when they take on Southwestern University beginning at 8:00 pm.
