DeThomas Goal in Second OT Lifts Field Hockey past #15 Salisbury, 2-1

Salisbury, MD (October 12, 2021) - Junior Grace DeThomas scored on a penalty stroke in the second OT period lifting the DeSales University field hockey team past #15 Salisbury University in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 2, #15 Salisbury - 1 (2 OT)
  • Records: DeSales (6-7 Overall); Salisbury (7-6 Overall)
  • It is the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
  • Salisbury was the fourth team the Bulldogs played this season that have been ranked in the NFHCA Top 25 poll and its DSU's first win over a ranked team in those four games.
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs started the scoring late in the first quarter when junior Catie McGrath found sophomore Maddie Trocki streaking down the field and Trocki beat a charging GK for a 1-0 lead.
  • That lead stood into the half but Salisbury needed just 33 seconds into the third third quarter to tie the game.
  • Neither team was able to find the potential game-winner as the game went into overtime.
  • Both teams had chances in the first OT to score but the game remained deadlocked at one into a second OT.
  • The Bulldogs took all three shots in the second OT session and were knocking on the door when they earned a penalty stroke with 2:59 left and DeThomas scored to give DeSales the win.
