Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Muhlenberg; Earns Win over McDaniel

Allentown, PA (October 2, 2021) - The DeSales University volleyball team split a tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Muhlenberg College earning a win over McDaniel College just before dropping a five-setter to the Mules.

Match #1 (W/3-1 vs. McDaniel)
After dropping the first set convincingly (25-12), the Bulldogs rallied and won the next three sets to take the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-21.

Sophomore Shannon McDevitt had 14 kills and three blocks, hitting .414, while junior Caroline Garretson finished with 12 kills and hit .265.

Junior Delanie Zohler added 10 kills and had a double-double with 12 digs and added four blocks.  Sophomore Grace Grandinetti handed out 36 assists, while junior McKenzie Brady (16 digs) and sophomore Alyson Maddalone (15 digs) led the defense.

Match #2 (L/2-3 vs. Muhlenberg)
DSU took the first set, 25-21, before the Mules took a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 and 26-24 win in sets two and three.  The Bulldogs forced a fifth set with a 25-16 win in the fourth frame but Muhlenberg dominated the fifth set, taking the win 15-8.

Garretson had 21 kills and hit .333 and McDevitt finished with 16 kills and three blocks.  First-year Mykenah Calder and Zohler each had 19 digs and Brady and Maddalone totaled 22 and 18 digs respectively.

Grandinetti finished with 52 assists and three aces in the loss.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host King's College in MAC Freedom play beginning at 7:00 pm.
