Defense Carries Women's Basketball to Fifth Straight Win, 58-34 over Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (December 11, 2021) - The DeSales University women's basketball team held Misericordia University to just 34 points and 20.3 percent shooting earning its fifth straight win, 58-34, in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

  • Records: DeSales (6-3, 4-0 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (5-5, 2-2 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs have now won five straight after starting the season 1-3 and won 17 straight games at home.
  • It is the seventh straight win for DeSales over the Cougars as DSU owns a 38-12 lead in the all-time series between the two teams.
How it Happened
  • After MU took a 3-0 lead, DSU used a 10-2 run to take a 10-5 lead and held a four-point advantage after one quarter of play.
  • The defense took over in the second quarter holding the Cougars to just 2-for-16 shooting and four points to claim a 28-14 halftime lead despite having several players in foul trouble.
  • DSU scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take a 22-point lead (36-14) and never looked back from there.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Averi Jordan finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, all of which came in the second-half after picking up two fouls in the first 1:30 of the game.
  • Sophomore Mikaela Reese had 14 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks in the win.
  • Junior Megan Bealer also had double digits totaling11 points and nine rebounds to go along with four steals.
For the Foes
  • Alyssa Bondi and Skylar Bianchi each had eight points to lead Misericordia.

  • DSU held MU to just 12-for-59 from the field (20.3 percent).
