Defense Leads Women's Basketball Past Arcadia, 73-40, in Battle of Unbeatens

Center Valley, PA (February 25, 2021) - The DeSales University women's basketball team held Arcadia University to just 27.8 percent shooting for the game and to a season-low 40 points earning a 73-40 win over the previously unbeaten Knights in MAC Freedom action on Thursday evening in Billera Hall.

  • Records: DeSales (5-0, 5-0 MAC Freedom); Arcadia (4-1, 4-1 MAC Freedom)
  • It is DSU's third straight win over Arcadia and improves the Bulldogs all-time mark at home vs. the Knights to 11-0.
How it Happened
  • DeSales scored the first seven points of the game and the final five points of the first quarter to take a 20-9 lead on a three from freshman Mikaela Reese.
  • Defense took over in the second quarter as the Bulldogs allowed just five points and scored 16 of their own to take a commanding 36-14 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • Both teams came out of the halftime locker room cold as DSU missed its first eight shots but the defense continued with the lead expanding to 30 (51-21) by the end of the quarter and DeSales cruised the rest of the way.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Averi Jordan recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Fellow junior Rylie Rittenhouse battled foul trouble all night but wound up with 11 points as well.
  • Freshman Amelia Saunders had 10 points and Reese finished with nine tallies and seven boards.
  • Freshman Lindsey Welsh played well of the pine with eight points and seven rebounds.
For the Foes
  • Julia Makowski and Taylor Fritz each had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Knights.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales once again capitalized on turnovers turning 26 Knight miscues into 26 points on the other end.
  • The DSU bench out-scored Arcadia's pine, 32-13, for the game.
  • AU was just 1-of-9 from three-point land.
