Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss, 75-62, at Lycoming

Williamsport, PA (March 12, 2021) - The DeSales University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the shortened season falling 75-62 at Lycoming College on Friday evening in MAC Freedom action.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Lycoming - 75, DeSales - 62
  • Records: DeSales (8-1, 6-1 MAC Freedom); Lycoming (4-1, 4-1 MAC Freedom)
  • The loss sets up a very important game tomorrow with the winner of tomorrow's game earning the #1 seed and will host next week's MAC Freedom Championship game featuring these same two teams who have clinched the top two spots.
How it Happened
  • The first 13 minutes of this game were back and forth with Lycoming holding nine point leads twice but only holding a three point cushion at the 7:04 mark after a jumper from senior Timmy Edwards.
  • The Warriors scored eight straight points after that to go up 11 points but the Bulldogs finished the half on an 8-2 spurt to trail by six (39-33) at the half.
  • Lycoming shot a blistering 64.0 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes as compared to just 41.4 percent for DeSales.
  • DSU cut it to a one-point game five minutes into the second-half but an 11-0 run after that gave the hosts a 55-43 lead with 12:15 remaining.
  • DeSales chipped away and eventually pulled to within four (59-55) at the 6:18 mark on a three from junior Dat Lambert, but six quick points from the Warriors pushed the advantage back to double digits with 4:51 to go and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Edwards led DeSales with 19 points and added eight rebounds in the loss.
  • Junior Keba Mitchell added 10 points as the only other double digit scorer.
  • Freshman Ryan Boylan had nine points.
For the Foes
  • Dyson Harward finished with 17 points to lead the Warriors.
  • Matt Ilodigwe added 13 tallies and DeAundre Manuel and Darius Dangerfield each had 10 in the win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Lycoming torched the nets throughout the entire game hitting 61.2 percent from the field and going 10-for-21 from outside the arc.
  • DeSales shot a season-low 39.7 percent after entering the game shooting better than 50 percent from the field this season.
  • The Bulldogs pulled down 10 offensive rebounds but only capitalized with seven second chance points.
