Dallas, PA (March 14, 2021) - The DeSales University baseball team totaled 31 runs and 32 hits on Sunday afternoon as the offense exploded on a windy Sunday afternoon to take both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader with an 11-3 game one win and a 20-13 game two win over Misericordia University.
Game One
The offense provided plenty of support for sophomoreÂ
Tom Berg III who fired five shutout innings allowing just one hit and striking out five. He ran into some trouble in the fifth walking one and hitting two batters but wiggled out of trouble getting a pop out and fly out strand the bases loaded with one out.
The Bulldog offense did the rest scoring three times in the third on a bases clearing triple from sophomoreÂ
Thomas Carpenter. Carpenter wasn't done there as he knocked in two more runs in the fourth with a double, and another two runs in the fifth on a single, finishing just a home run shy of the cycle.
Carpenter had three hits and seven RBIs, seniorÂ
Robert Lamm added three hits and freshmanÂ
Gavin Zavorski and juniorÂ
Trevor Leamer each had two hits and accounted for five runs scored in the game one win.
Game Two
This game could have been mistaken for a football game with each team missing an extra point with the final tally of 20-13 with the game called for darkness entering the bottom half of the seventh inning.
After DSU took a 5-1 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run single from Carpenter and a solo home run from seniorÂ
Ethan Carmack, the Cougars plated seven runs to take an 8-5 lead.
DeSales wouldn't stop scoring runs however, plating one in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth, five in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to turn a 13-10 deficit into a 20-13 win.
Carpenter finished with three more hits, four runs scored, and five RBIs in game two. Carmack had two hits and two RBIs, Lamm finished with two hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs, sophomoreÂ
Justus Darville had three hits, three runs, and two RBIs, sophomoreÂ
