Baseball Sweep Home DH and Weekend Series with FDU-Florham

Center Valley, PA (March 20, 2021) - The DeSales University baseball team scored double digit runs two more times on Saturday extending its streak to six straight games with 10 or more runs sweeping the MAC Freedom doubleheader at Weiland Park to go 4-0 vs. FDU-Florham this weekend.

Game One
The Bulldogs erupted in the bottom of the first inning scoring 10 times and never looked back from there in the opener.  DSU had eight hits in the 1-run first and took advantage of two Devil errors to plate the 10 runs.

FDU-Florham did score five runs over three innings to climb within 11-5 entering the bottom of the fourth, but DeSales scored four times in both the fourth and fifth and three times in the sixth to post the final 22-6 game one tally.

Freshman Gavin Zavorski, sophomore Thomas Carpenter, junior Robert Lamm each had three hits in the game one win.  Carpenter scored four times, Lamm had four runs scored and knocked in four runs, and Zavorski had three runs scored and three RBIs.

Senior Sergio Diaz was a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs as the Bulldogs banged out 21 hits.  Junior Will Manley earned the win pitching three strong innings of relief allowing just two runs and striking out six.

Game Two
Game two was a defensive battle over the first three and a half innings but with the score tied at two, DSU exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-2 lead.  Junior Dillon Drew and senior Hunter Spalt each had RBI singles and senior Ethan Carmack put the exclamation point on the inning with his second grand slam of the weekend series around the right field foul pole.

DSU led 10-4 entering the top of the ninth when the Devils put the winning run at the plate with nobody out but junior JJ Paul came in and struck out two and get a ground out to first base to end the threat and preserve the win earning his first save of the year.

Senior Ian Kacergis got the win pitching 5 1/3 strong frames allowing just three earned runs.

Carmack finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored, Diaz had three more hits and scored twice and sophomore Joe Grigas added two hits in the win.
