Fourth Quarter Dooms Men's Lacrosse in 16-12 Loss to Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (April 28, 2021) - Misericordia University erased a two-goal deficit entering the fourth quarter in a 16-12 win over the DeSales University men's lacrosse team in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening sewing up the #2 seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom postseason tournament.

The Basics

  • The Bulldogs drop down to the #4 seed with the loss and will host Delaware Valley University in the MAC Freedom quarterfinals on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.
How it Happened
  • DeSales jumped out quick scoring the game's first two goals before the Cougars tied it at two with two goals in a span of 57 seconds.
  • The Bulldogs then scored two more to reclaim a two-goal lead, but Misericordia had the answer yet again with three straight tallies to take a 5-4 lead before a high scoring first quarter came to a close all tied up at five.
  • MU controlled play in the second quarter, outscoring DeSales, 4-2, to hold a two-goal advantage into the half.
  • The Bulldogs dominated the third quarter, opening with three straight goals to take a 10-9 lead and scoring two straight to end the quarter to claim a 12-10 advantage heading into the final quarter.
  • The Cougars tied the game with a goal at the 9:19 mark and then controlled possession over the final nine minutes of the game scoring the game-winner with 7:18 left and icing the win with three goals over the final 3:39.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Zach Bowen led DSU with six goals and junior Tom Connors had six assists, one shy of tying the single-game record.
  • Junior Kai Taylor finished with three goals and a helper and senior Matt Motto had one goal and two assists.
  • Freshman Pat Schuett had a goal and an assist and sophomore Beau Neff scored once.
  • Senior Vince Maria had five caused turnovers and six ground balls on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Senior Colin Corrado won 13-of-23 face-offs.
  • Freshman Quinten Lyons turned in a top 10 performance with 24 saves in between the pipes.
For the Foes
  • Robert Wagner was nearly unstoppable with seven goals and an assist.
  • Kyle Vandenberg added four goals and one assist and Nick Torzilli had two goals and two assists.
  • Bryan DeGennaro finished with 16 saves in net.
