Caruso honored as DeSales’ NCAA Woman of the Year nominee

| By:
Center Valley, PA (July 16, 2021) - Senior Isabel Caruso was honored earlier this week as the DeSales University nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.

Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers. The NCAA encourages member schools to honor their top graduating female student-athletes each year by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award.

Next, conferences will select up to two nominees each from the pool of school nominees. Then, the Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division. The selection committee will determine the top three honorees from each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in the fall. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Caruso graduated in May as a sport & exercise physiology major and a four-year member of the women's basketball team. She was an eight-time member of the Dean's List and three times member of the MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll.

As a senior she earned All-MAC Freedom Second-Team honors leading the DeSales University women's basketball team to its third straight MAC Freedom Championship. Caruso finished the year ranked ninth in the country in steals per game.  She averaged a career-high 8.3 points per game during her senior year.
