Owings Mills, MD (September 10, 2021) - The DeSales University volleyball team fought back down 2-1 to force a fifth set but were unable to complete the comeback in a 3-2 loss to The University of Mary Washington in the opening day of the Stevenson Quad on Friday evening.

How it Happened

• The Bulldogs dropped a tight first set that never saw them lead but the score tied five times throughout.
• The second set was again tight but this time DeSales led nearly the entire way pulling out a 25-19 second set win.
• DeSales struggled in the third set hitting negative but rebounded with a hard-fought fourth set win that saw nine ties and three lead changes before the Bulldogs won 25-21.
• DSU started strong in the fifth set and led 9-6 midway thru before UMW took control with eight of the next nine points to lead 14-10 before closing out the match, 15-11.

Top Bulldog Performers

• Freshman Shannon McDevitt played well totaling 13 kills and hitting .344 with five blocks.
• Junior Caroline Garretson equaled McDevitt's 13 kills and hit .320.
• Junior Diane Pugay added nine kills and first-year Mykenah Calder had eight kils and 13 digs.
• Senior Audrey Wolfe finished with 41 assists and 16 digs.
• Junior McKenzie Brady finished with 15 digs.

For the Foes

• Mary Washington got a team-high 12 kills from Ally Fletcher.
• Jordan Lyons had 10 kills and 18 digs.

Inside the Box Score

• The Bulldogs hit .153 for the match, while the Eagles converted .267 at the net.
