Field Hockey Scores Three Times in Second-Half in Win over Moravian

Center Valley, PA (September 2, 2021) - The DeSales University field hockey team opened its 2021 season with three second-half goals in a 3-0 win over local rival Moravian College in non-conference action on Thursday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, Moravian - 0
  • Records: DeSales (1-0 overall), Moravian (0-1 overall)
  • DSU has now won five straight over the Greyhounds and improve to 9-8 in the all-time series.  Each of the last five wins have been via shutout.
How it Happened
  • DeSales controlled play for all 60 minutes but were scoreless after two quarters of play despit an 11-0 advantage in shots over the first-half.
  • The Bulldogs broke thru with two goals in the span of 17 seconds in the third quarter to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Junior Catie McGrath took a pass from fellow junior Tyra Wingle and scored on a blast just inside the circle to make it 1-0.
  • Junior Allie Ball made it a two-goal game just 17 ticks later as Wingle found her wide open on the left post and Ball finished.
  • Wingle got into the scoring act later in the game pushing home the rebound of a saved shot off the stick of sophomore Maddie Trocki with 52 sceonds left in the game.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • In addition to the goal scorers, junior Grace DeThomas made a defensive save and junior Gianna Duddy collected her first career shutout.
  • Trocki led DSU with 10 shots, six on goal.
For the Foes
  • Moravian got 11 saves from goalkeeper Brooke Wilkinson.
  • Elise Keeney, Onalee Long, and Savannah Sutter each had a defensive save.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales had a 26-1 advantage in shots and a slight advantage in penalty corners (6-5).

  • DSU is back in action on Saturday when they host its other local rival, Muhlenberg College, at Noon.
