Newark, NJ (September 21, 2021) - The DeSales University volleyball team won its third straight match taking down Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

The Basics

• Final Score: DeSales - 3, Rutgers-Newark - 0 (25-16, 29-27, 25-18)
• Records: DeSales (6-4 overall); Rutgers-Newark (1-7 overall)
• This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 1998 season as the Bulldogs advanced to 4-2 overall vs. the Scarlet Knights.

How it Happened

• DSU made quick work of the first set winning 25-16 after hitting .225.
• It was a dog fight in set #2 as Rutgers-Newark scored five straight points down 24-19 to the set before the two teams traded the next six points with the Bulldogs eventually winning two straight tied at 27.
• The third set, DeSales forced Newark into .065 hitting to close out the match.

Top Bulldog Performers

• Junior Delanie Zohler had 11 kills and added 14 digs in the win.
• Junior Austen Brewer added eight kills and hit .214 to go along with nine digs.
• Senior Georgia Traynor finished with a team-high 26 digs to lead the defense.
• Senior Audrey Wolfe totaled five kills, 11 assists, and a block.
• Sophomore Grace Grandinetti finished with 17 assists and 10 digs.

For the Foes

• Tracey Ilderis had a team-high 10 kills.

• DSU hit .176 for the match and had 10 service aces as compared to just three for Rutgers-Newark.
