Washington, D.C. (September 252, 2021) - The DeSales University volleyball team posted a split of two matches on day two at the Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University to finish in second place in the four-team field.
Match #1 (W/3-2 vs. Gallaudet)
The Bulldogs fell behind early dropping the first two sets by tight 25-22 and 25-23 scores. DSU clawed its way back into the match scoring three straight points tied at 21 in the third set to take a 25-22 win. In the fourth set two straight points with the score tied at 21 once again catapulted the Bulldogs to a 25-23 lead forcing a fifth set.
DeSales had a three point run tied at four to take a 7-4 lead and leading by one (10-9) late in the set scored four straight points to take a 14-9 lead and closed out the match on a kill from sophomoreÂ

Delanie Zohler andÂ
Austen Brewer each had 12 kills and Zohler had a double-double adding 17 digs. JuniorÂ
Caroline Garretson finished with 15 kills and hit .333, while first-yearÂ
Mykenah Calder had eight kills and 21 digs.
SophomoreÂ
Grace Grandinetti finished with 28 assists and nine digs and seniorÂ
Audrey Wolfe had 20 assists and two blocks. JuniorÂ
McKenzie Brady led the defense with 42 digs.
Match #2 (L/0-3 vs. Eastern)
DeSales shook off a slow start in the first set scoring seven straight points to take a 12-10 lead before the two heavyweights went back-and-forth till late in the set when the Eagles scored five of the last six points with the score 20-19 to take the first set. EU then dominated the final two sets winning by 25-16 and 25-13 margins.
Brewer and Zohler once again played well with six kills each. Brady had 13 digs and Gradinetti had 17 assists.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Arcadia University in a MAC Freedom match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
