Volleyball Splits Day Two of Home Invitational

Center Valley, PA (September 4, 2021) - The DeSales University volleyball team split its two matches on day two of the DeSales University Invitational to finish 1-2 in the weekend tournament.

The Basics
  • Match #1: DeSales over Washington College, MD, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-18)
  • Match #2: NYU over DeSales, 3-1 (22-25, 16-25, 25-15, 13-25)
  • The Bulldogs move to 2-2 on the season with the split.
How it Happened
  • In the first match DeSales hit .283, totaling 42 kills and just 14 errors over the three sets.
  • DSU's defense was also playing at high level forcing the Shorewoman into .021 hitting and out-digging WC, 43-39.
  • In the second match, the Bulldogs lost a tight first set and were dowin 2-0 before dominating set #3, winning 25-15.
  • NYU responded however cruising out to a big early lead in the fourth set and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Caroline Garretson led the way in each match totaling 13 kills and hitting .591 vs. Washington and finishing with 12 kills and hitting .286 vs. NYU.
  • First-Year Shannon McDevitt had 10 kills and hit .471 in the first match.
  • Senior Audrey Wolfe finished with 31 assists vs. WC and 29 vs. NYU, adding 12 digs in the NYU loss.
  • First-Year Mykenah Calder had six kills and 13 digs vs. Washington and nine kills and eight digs vs. NYU.
  • Junior Diane Pugay continued to play well on the right-side with 14 kills in the two matches.
  • Senior Georgia Traynor had double digit digs (10-14) in both matches.
For the Foes
  • Washington was led by Angelina Schaber with six kills.
  • NYU got 22 kills from Ella Spaethling.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs hit .283 as a team vs. Washington College but just .108 vs NYU.
  • NYU hit .244 for the match.
  • The Bulldogs had 15 service aces across the two matches.

  • DeSales stays at home and will open MAC Freedom play on Wednesday when they host Misericordia University beginning at 7:00 pm.
