Huge Run Pushes Women's Basketball Past Wilkes, 72-30

Center Valley, PA (January 26, 2022) - The DeSales University women's basketball team used a 31-0 run to roll past Wilkes University, 72-30, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 72, Wilkes - 30
  • Records: DeSales (12-3, 10-0 MAC Freedom); Wilkes (5-11, 4-6 MAC Freedom)
  • It is DeSales' 50th straight win in the series and improves the Bulldogs to 51-2 all-time vs. the Colonels.
  • The Bulldogs have now won 11 straight on the season and it is their 21st straight win at home, two shy of tying the all-time record.

How it Happened
  • DSU jumped out to 14-2 lead over the first five minutes before Wilkes battled back to get within nine points twice in the second quarter with the last coming at 27-18.
  • The Bulldogs out-scored the Colonels, 13-0 over the final 4:21 of the half to take a 40-18 halftime lead.
  • That run continued into the third quarter as DeSales scored the first 18 points of the quarter adding up to a 31-0 run as the Bulldogs held Wilkes scoreless for a total of 10 minutes and 12 seconds.
  • The lead was 45 after three quarters of play and DSU cruised in the fourth quarter en route to its 50th straight win over Wilkes.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Averi Jordan once again led the way with 18 points.
  • Sophomore Mikeala Reese notched her fourth straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, adding four assists, four steals, and four blocked shots.
  • Sophomore Amelia Saunders had 13 points and four assists.
  • Junior Megan Bealer added seven points and 11 rebounds.
For the Foes
  • Erin Shober and Baylee Guedes each had seven points to lead Wilkes.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU finished the game shooting 40.3 percent from the field and held Wilkes to just 20.8 percent from the field.
  • DeSales dominated the glass out-rebounding Wilkes, 53-32.
  • The Bulldogs had a 20-2 advantage in fast break points and a 21-6 edge in second chance points.
  • DeSales held Wilkes to just eight total points in the second and third quarters.
