Glenside, PA (October 11, 2022) - The DeSales University volleyball team got a big road win at Arcadia University on Tuesday evening, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 32-30), in MAC Freedom action.
The Basics
- Final Score:Â DeSales - 3, Arcadia - 0 (25-22, 25-19, 32-20)
- Records:Â DeSales (13-9, 4-1 MAC Freedom); Arcadia (14-5, 4-1Â MAC Freedom)
- It is DSU's third straight win over the Knights and moves the Bulldogs to 15-3 vs. Arcadia all-time.
- The win gives DeSales the tiebreaker over AU in the MAC Freedom postseason race.
How it Happened
- DeSales fell behind early in the first set as Arcadia took a 7-1 lead and continued to lead by five (20-15) late in the first set.
- A kill from first-year Madison Swift was followed by back-to-back kills from junior Shannon McDevitt forcing an AU timeout with the score 20-18.
- Out of the time, DSU got within one (20-19) before Arcadia snapped the four point run.
- A few points later an Arcadia service error tied the score at 22 and DSU got three straight points to take the first set.
- The Bulldogs dominated the second set taking a 6-0 lead and never trailing to win 25-19.
- Arcadia was out quick in the third set taking a 4-1 lead before DSU rebounded to take a 6-5 lead on an ace from first-year Peyton Porterfield.
- The game went back-and-forth the rest of the way and DeSales had the first match point at 24-22 but Arcadia won two straight to force extra points.
- DeSales had match point six times before they were able to finish off the match on a kill from Swift and had to fight off three set points by the Knights to win 32-30.
Top Bulldog Performers
- First-year Abby Weise was outstanding with 11 kills, hitting .500, and adding 10 digs and five blocks.
- Swift finished with nine kills, hitting .412.
- McDevitt and sophomore Samanthan Worontzoff combined for 12 kills, hitting .333, and adding 10 blocks.
- Porterfield had 18 assists and nine digs, while junior Grace Grandinetti finished with 13 assists and four digs.
- Senior McKenzie Brady had 11 digs and sophomore Mykenah Calder had a team-high 14 digs.
For the Foes
- Estefania Martinez-Sola had a team-high 12 kills and added 13 digs.
- Nicole Dallara and Michelle Frank each had 10 kills.
Inside the Box Score
- The Bulldogs hit .257 for the match and had just 11 total hitting errors over the three sets.
- DeSales also did a terrific job on the serve with just two service errors.
- DSU also dominated at the net with 10 team blocks.

- The Bulldogs are off this weekend and are back in action next week when they host Wilkes University next Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
