Women's Soccer Clinches #4 Seed with 2-1 Win over King's

Center Valley, PA (October 29, 2022) - The DeSales University women's soccer team clinched the #4 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament next week with a 2-1 win over King's College in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 2, King's - 1
  • Records: DeSales (11-5-2, 5-3 MAC Freedom); King's (7-6-4,  MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs clinch the #4 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament next week and will host FDU-Florham on Monday in the quarterfinals at 2:00 pm.
  • The win is DeSales' fourth straight over the Monarchs and moves to DSU to 23-4 all-time vs. King's including a perfect 14-0 at home.
How it Happened
  • DSU opened the scoring in the 20th minute when seniors Allie Trick and Katie Padgett connected on a centering pass for the game's first goal.
  • King's tied the game in the 42nd minute just before halftime but the Bulldogs only needed 1:26 to reclaim the lead 2:28 before the half to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second-half as DSU controlled possession and dominated shots in the game.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Emma Ribeiro scored the game-winner just before halftime, stealing a goal kick and racing 1-v-1 towards the goalie for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
  • Padgett netted her third of the year to give DSU a 1-0 lead off an assist from Trick.
  • Junior Hannah Pacheco made one save in goal.
For the Foes
  • Lauren Chapple had King's goal and Leah Sankey earned an assist.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs had a 26-5 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • DSU also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
