Baseball Opens Season with Split vs. Bridgewater (VA)

Harrisonburg, VA (February 19, 2022) - The DeSales University baseball team opened its 2022 season with a DH split vs. Bridgewater College (VA) at James Madison University on Saturday.

Game One (L/13-15)
The Bulldogs opened up a 9-1 lead in this one scoring once in the first and second, three times in the third, and four times in the fourth.  The two teams traded runs over the next several innings as the Bulldogs clung to a 13-9 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning when the Eagles scored five times to take a 14-13 lead, its first lead of the game.  BC added one more in the eighth and the Bulldogs went quietly in the eighth and ninth innings suffering the loss.

Senior Robert Lamm, junior Joe Grigas IV, first-year Gabe Diaz, and sophomore Gavin Zavorski all had three hits in the loss.  Grigas IV knocked in three runs and Lamm had four RBIs.  DSU finished with 20 hits total as a team.  First-year Frank Parrotti took the loss allowing five runs, three earned, over 1 1/3 inning of relief.  The Bulldogs made five errors in the loss, leading to seven unearned runs.

Game Two (W/21-11)
DSU fell behind 2-0 in this one before exploding for five runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning to take a 14-4 lead.  The Bulldogs added two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two more in the seventh posting the final tally.

Lamm was 2-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBIs, senior Billy Scanlon had three hits and five RBIs.  Junior Colin Trembley and sophomore Travis Kerr each scored four runs.  Senior Dillon Drew had three hits and three RBIs, while Grigas IV and sophomore Liam Kile each had two hits and two RBIs.

Senior Will Manley earned the win with three innings of solid relief allowing three runs and striking out six.

The Bulldogs are back at it tomorrow when they face Eastern Mennonite University beginning at 10:00 am.
