Bowen Breaks Goals Record; Men's Lacrosse Opens Season with OT Win at Stockton

Galloway, NJ (February 19, 2022) - Senior Zach Bowen scored four goals, including the game-tying goal with 35 seconds left, breaking the all-time record for goals scored leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team past Stockton University, 15-14, in overtime in the 2022 season opener on Saturday afternoon.

  • It is DSU's second straight win over Stockton and the first for the Bulldogs over Stockton on the road as DSU is now 3-5 all-time vs. the Ospreys.
How it Happened
  • With the game tied at two, DSU scored four straight goals to take a 6-2 lead early in the second quarter.
  • The Ospreys scored three straight to get within one (6-5) before the Bulldogs claimed an 8-6 lead at the half.
  • DSU led 10-7 before SU scored three straight to tie the game at 10 and the Ospreys scored six of seven goals between the end of the third and start of the fourth quarter to take a 13-11 lead.
  • Back-to-back goals tied the game at 13 with 6:35 to go.
  • Stockton took a 14-13 lead with 1:16 left, but Bowen tied the game with 35 ticks left forcing overtime.
  • In the overtime period, graduate student Jalen Holmes scored with 1:38 left giving DSU the win in the season opener.

  • Bowen finished with four goals and now has 138 career goals to rank first all-time.
  • Sophomore TJ Herron had four goals and two assists and sophomore Pat Schuett added three goals and one assist.
  • First-year Nate Perry had a goal and two assists and senior Sean Wiser had two goals.
  • Junior Zach Broomall finished with 22 face-offs wins and 15 ground balls, adding one assist.
  • Three different goals combined to make eight saves.
For the Foes
  • Luc Swedlund finished with three goals and an assist to lead Stockton.
  • Dante Poli had three goals and two helpers and Reegan Capozzoli finished with two goals and two assists.
  • Eric Lindskog had 13 saves in goal.
