Baseball Splits Two with Win over Hampden-Sydney; Lost to Methodist

Fayetteville, NC (February 26, 2022) - The DeSales University baseball team split two games on Saturday defeating Hampden-Sydney, 12-2, before falling to host Methodist College, 5-0, in the second game on Saturday.

Game One (W/12-2)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from senior Dillon Drew and after HSC tied the game in the second inning, DSU reclaimed the lead with two runs in the third on an error and RBI double from Drew.

The lead remained 3-1 into the seventh inning when the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs, led by junior Colin Trembley who led off the inning with a solo home run and added a bases clearing double to cap off the seven-run frame.

Senior Ian Kacergis earned the win pitching seven strong allowing just five hits and one run and striking out seven.  Trembley and Drew each had two hits and combined for six RBIs.  Seniors Trevor Leamer, Liam Kile, and Billy Scanlon, along with first-year Justin DeStaso each scored twice.

Game Two (L/0-5)
The second game vs. host Methodist was an old fashioned pitcher's duel into the bottom of the fifth inning when Methodist broke open a 0-0 tie with a two-RBI, two-out double and added three runs in the eighth to post the final tally.

Junior Ryan Rieber took the loss despite pitching well allowing just two runs over 6 1/3 innings, striking out four.  Scanlon had two of DSU's five hits in the loss.

The Bulldogs have one more tomorrow when they take on PSU-Abington beginning at 11:00 am.
