Women's Basketball Wins 15th Straight; Clinches Top Seed in MAC Freedom Tournament

Wilkes-Barre, PA (February 9, 2022) - The DeSales University women's basketball team used a quick start and strong finish to win its 15th straight game, 68-51, at King's College clinching the top seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament in two weeks.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 68, King's - 51
  • Records: DeSales (16-3, 14-0 MAC Freedom); King's (13-8, 8-5 MAC Freedom)
  • DeSales has now won four straight in the series and improves to 46-28 all-time vs. the Monarchs.
  • The Bulldogs have now won 15 straight on the season.
  • The win clinches the MAC Freedom Regular Season Championship and the #1 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament in two weeks.
How it Happened
  • DeSales used runs of 10-2 and 8-0 in the first quarter to build as large as a 13-point lead before holding a 22-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.
  • The advantage extended to as many as 21 points in the second quarter before the Monarch rallied finishing the half on a 9-2 run to pull within 12 (41-29) at the break.
  • The Bulldogs went cold in the third quarter scoring just six points but their defense was able to hold King's to just 11 points to continue to lead by seven (47-40) heading into the final quarter.
  • DSU scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to take a 54-40 lead at the 7:33 mark and KC never got any closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Mikaela Reese led the Bulldogs with 25 points and pulled down eight boards.
  • Junior Maria Newsome had 10 tallies, adding five assists and sophomore Amelia Saunders also had double digits with 10.
  • Senior Averi Jordan was just two points and one rebound shy of a double-double, adding four assists.
  • Junior Megan Bealer finished with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
For the Foes
  • Emily Kriston led the Monarchs with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Samantha Rajza added 10 points in the loss.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU scored 36 of its 68 points in the paint and out-rebounded King's, 43-29.
  • DeSales finished the game shooting 44.3 percent from the field and held the Monarchs to just 34.5 percent shooting.

  • The Bulldogs are off this weekend and will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Delaware Valley University beginning at 6:00 pm.
