Men's Lacrosse Rallies for 8-7 Win at Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, NY (March 10, 2022) - First-year Nate Perry scored unassisted with just over two minutes left in regulation leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team past Farmingdale State, 8-7, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 8, Farmingdale - 7
  • Records: DeSales (3-1); Farmingdale (3-1)
  • This was the first meeting between these two teams in DeSales history.
  • The one goal win gives the Bulldogs three one goal win this season, the first two coming in overtime.
How it Happened
  • After Farmingdale scored the first goal of the game, the two teams traded back-to-back goals until the 10 minute mark of the second quarter after Farmingdale scored two straight to start the second stanza, taking a 5-4 lead.
  • DSU tied the game at five with 3:07 left in the first-half but FS scored with six seconds left to take a one-goal halftime lead.
  • Farmingdale led by two (7-5) late in the third quarter when the Bulldogs returned the late goal favor with one of its own with seconds left in the third quarter by senior Zach Bowen to pull DSU within one goal.
  • It took almost 12 minutes for either team to score in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs tied the game at seven with 3:18 remaining as junior Domenic Maria picked up a rebound and scored unassisted.
  • DeSales won the face-off after a Farmingdale violation and Perry scored the eventual game-winner with 2:02 on the clock.
  • After FS won the face-off, senior Michael Valencia picked up a ground ball and was able to clear the ball, while also drawing a tripping penalty with 1:01 on the clock.
  • Farmingdale committed another penalty trying to double the Bulldogs who were attempting to play keep away with 41 seconds left and DeSales was unable to run out the clock to preserve the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Graduate student Jalen Holmes led the Bulldogs with two goals and an assist for three points and Bowen had a goal and two assists for three points.
  • Perry finished with two goals, while the Maria brothers, Domenic and senior Vince Maria, each scored once.
  • Senior Sean Wiser also scored in the win.
  • Junior Zach Broomall won 8-of-13 face-offs and had six ground balls.
  • Sophomore TJ Lowe played the last three quarters in goal making five saves and allowing just four goals.
For the Foes
  • Ethan Grossman led the Mules with three goals and an assist for four points.
  • Jack Kraemer and James Dalimonte had two goals each.
  • Max May played well in goal making 14 saves.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales dominated shots, out-shooting Farmingdale, 46-24.
  • DSU also had a 39-26 advantage in ground balls.
  • The Bulldogs forced Farmingdale into 19-for-29 in clears and into 26 turnovers.
