Schuett's OT Goals Leads Men's Lacrosse over Muhlenberg, 10-9

Center Valley, PA (March 2, 2022) - Sophomore Pat Schuett scored his third goal of the game with 57.9 seconds left in the first overtime lifting the DeSales University men's lacrosse team past local rival Muhlenberg College, 10-9, in the 2022 season home opener on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 10, Muhlenberg - 9 (OT)
  • Records: DeSales (2-1); Muhlenberg (0-2)
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2005 season and is DSU's first-ever win over the Mules in three career meetings.
How it Happened
  • Muhlenberg jumped out early in this one scoring five of the first six goals of the game to take a 5-1 lead less than eight minutes into the game.
  • The Bulldogs settled down and finished the half scoring four straight goals to tie the game at five entering halftime, holding the Mules scoreless over the final 22:13 of the first half.
  • DSU took a brief 6-5 lead in the third quarter before Muhlenberg scored two straight to reclaim a one-goal advantage.
  • The Mules continued to lead by one with 5:34 to go in the fourth quarter when graduate student Jalen Holmes scored unassisted with 2:21 to go and sophomore TJ Lowe made a huge save with about 15 seconds left preseving the tie and sending the game into overtime.
  • After each team had a possession in the extra session, first-year Nate Perry picked up a ground ball after a saved shot and immediately found Schuett who scored the game-winner with 57.9 ticks left.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Schuett finished with four points adding an assist to his three goals.
  • Perry also had four points with a goal and three assists and senior Zach Bowen finished with three goals.
  • Junior Beau Neff had two helpers and Holmes, sophomore TJ Herrron, and first-year Eric Goliaszewski each had one assist.
  • Junior Zach Broomall totaled 10 ground balls and won 13-of-22 faceoffs.
  • Lowe was outstanding in goal making 16 saves.
  • Graduate student Vince Maria finished with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
For the Foes
  • Ethan Grossman led the Mules with three goals and an assist for four points.
  • Jack Kraemer and James Dalimonte had two goals each.
  • Max May played well in goal making 14 saves.
Inside the Box Score
  • Muhlenberg out-shot DeSales, 42-29, and had a slim 37-34 edge in ground balls.
  • DSU won 13-of-22 face-offs and was 2-for-3 in man-up opportunities.
  • Both teams combined for 52 turnovers.
