Baseball Settles for DH Split After Controversial Ending in Game Two

Center Valley, PA (March 26, 2022) - The DeSales University baseball team had to settle for a split in a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday afternoon winning game one, 17-6, before dropping the second game 10-9 to Misericordia University.

Game One (W/17-6)
After both teams scored four times in the first inning, DeSales blew this game wide open scoring five times in both the third and fourth innings to take a 14-6 lead and never really looked back from there.

DSU banged out 15 hits including a 4-for-4 effort with five RBIs from senior Billy Scanlon.  Senior Hunter Spalt, sophomore Travis Kerr, senior Trevor Leamer, and first-year Patrick Kusters all had two hits in the game one win.  DeSales had four doubles and a home run among its 15 hits.

Senior Ian Kacergis was very good in this one lasting six innings allowing just six hits and one earned run, striking out five.

Game Two (L/9-10)
Misericordia was in control early taking a 7-1 lead thru 2 1/2 innings before the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the third inning to take an 8-7 lead.

DeSales had six hits, including four doubles in the big inning, sending 11 men to the plate.

The Cougars got one run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 10-8 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning.

DSU rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning putting runners on second and third with one out and a run home on a single from first-year Gabe Diaz.  Kusters sent a high fly ball into the left-centerfield gap that seemed to easily score the tying run as the throw went to third base with Diaz also moving up on the play.  After the play resumed, the Cougars appealed the play at second base that Diaz left early and the base umpire called Diaz out ending the game and canceling the tying run at the plate.

Diaz finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Scanlon, Leamer, and Kerr all had two hits in the loss.

First-year Frank Parrotti pitched well in the loss allowing just one hit over 2 1/3 innings.
