Seven-Run Sixth; Walk-off Grand Slam Leads Softball to Two Wins on Sunday

Mrytle Beach, SC (March 6, 2022) - The DeSales University softball team used a seven-run sixth inning in the first game and had a walk-off grand slam in the eighth inning of game two to open its spring break trip with two wins on Sunday morning/afternoon.

Game One (W/7-1 over Blackburn College)
After Blackburn took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and DSU had just four base runners over the first five innings, the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the first game of the day.

Senior Reilly Kerr had a two-RBI triple, while junior Kayleigh Ferraro and sophomore Alexys Vernier each had RBI singles during the big inning.  Sophomore Rebecca Kibler capped off the inning with a two-RBI single.

Senior Heather Hall earned the win pitching five strong innings allowing just two hits and one run, striking out six.  First-Year Tabitha Lawless tossed two scoreless innings of relief earning the win, striking out two.

Game Two (W/4-3 over Marymount University)
DeSales and Marymount played to a scoreless tie thru seven innings before MU scored three two-out runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-0 lead.

With one out in the bottom half of the inning, DSU got a single, walk, and another single to load the bases and senior Kristen Suran came thru with a grand slam to left field to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 win in eight innings.

First-year Rachel Lowry earned her first win of the season pitching eight strong innings allowing just five hits and two earned runs, striking out five.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they take on Eastern Mennonite University and Lebanon Valley College.
