Little River, SC (March 9, 2022) - The DeSales University softball team split two games on day three of its spring trip to Myrtle Beach, SC on Wednesday morning/afternoon earning a win over Salem College (NC) before falling to William Peace University.
Game One (W/8-0)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning taking advantage of a two-out error by Salem plating two runs with two outs.
That score remained into the fourth inning when the Bulldogs added another on an RBI single from juniorÂ
Kayleigh Ferraro and broke the game open in the sixth with three runs on four consecutive hits and two walks before a triple play ended the threat.
DeSales tacked on two more runs in the seventh and first-year'sÂ
Tabitha Lawless andÂ
Rachel Lowry combining on a complete-game shutout allowing just seven hits. Lawless earned the win going four innings allowing three hits and striking out three, while Lowry got the save with three scoreless allowing four hits and fanning one.
JuniorÂ
Lily Trexler had two hits, stole three bases, and scored three runs in the win. Ferraro had two hits and juniorÂ
Olivia Ondrejca went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Game Two (L/1-5)
DSU fell behind 4-0 in this one as WPU scored once in the first and three times in the fourth.
DeSales got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but William Peace made it 5-1 in the seventh and the Bulldogs were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom half.
JuniorÂ
Nicole Secara had the lone RBI. SeniorÂ
Heather Hall took the loss allowing five runs over seven innings, striking out three.
DSU wraps up its trip tomorrow with games vs. Gettysburg and PSU-Abington.
