Quick Start Propels Men's Lacrosse past Misericordia, 14-8

Dallas, PA (April 27, 2022) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored the game's first five goals and finished the half with three straight goals never looking back in the second-half in a 14-8 win over Misericordia University in an important MAC Freedom game on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 14, Misericordia - 8
  • Records: DeSales (9-5, 5-2 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (11-4, 5-2 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs are 9-10 all-time vs. the Cougars.
  • The Bulldogs have clinched a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason and currently sit in third place. If they win on Saturday vs. Delaware Valley and Misericordia beats Arcadia, the Bulldogs will be the #2 seed and host a semifinal playoff game next week.  If DSU beats the Aggies and Arcadia beats Misericordia, DSU will be the #3 seed and travel to the Knights for the semifinals.
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs took it to the Cougars on Wednesday opening up a 5-0 lead after one quarter of play including three goals in the final 1:32 of the period.
  • MU scored three of the first four goals in the second quarter but DeSales finished the half scoring three straight, including two in the last 42 seconds to claim a 9-3 halftime advantage.
  • The lead grew to 13-5 mid-way thru the third quarter and after Misercordia finished the quarter with three straight goals, DeSales held MU scoreless in the fourth to provide final 14-8 win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Zach Bowen led the Bulldogs with three goals and four assists.
  • Graduate student Jalen Holmes had five goals, while sophomore TJ Herron (1g, 2a) and sophomore Pat Schuett (2g, 1a) each had three points.
  • Junior Zach Broomall won 14-of-25 faceoffs and had 11 ground balls.
  • Sophomore Quinten Lyons was outstanding in goal making 16 saves.
For the Foes
  • Robert Wagner finished with a goal and three assists.
  • Carson Venis totaled two goals and two helpers.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales had a slim 40-37 advantage in shots and a 38-34 edge in ground balls.
  • DSU had just 18 turnovers and was 18-for-23 on the clear.
