Ambler, PA (May 8, 2022) - The DeSales University baseball team split the first two games of the three-game MAC Freedom Semifinal postseason series with top seeded Arcadia University to force a winner take all game three on Monday afternoon.
Game three will be Monday at 3:30 pm at Skip Wilson Field in Ambler, PA with the winner advancing to the MAC Freedom Championship series next weekend at the winner of the other semifinal between Misericordia and Stevens who also split their first two games on Sunday.
Game One (W/10-6)
The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 entering the fifth inning when DSU got six two-out runs to take a 6-1 lead that included a two-RBI double from juniorÂ
Joe Grigas IVÂ and RBI singles from seniorÂ
Robert Lamm, seniorÂ
Dillon Drew, and juniorÂ
Colin Trembley.
DSU added to its lead on a solo home run from Lamm in the sixth and a two-run shot from first-yearÂ
Justin DeStasso in the seventh to claim a 9-1 advantage.
SeniorÂ
Ian Kacergis earned his eighth win of the season pitching 7 1/3 strong innings allowing 10 hits and striking out five. First-yearÂ
Mike Romano got the final five outs, striking out two to earn his first save of the season.
Lamm had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs, while seniorÂ
Trevor Leamer, Grigas IV, seniorÂ
Hunter Spalt, and first-yearÂ
Gabe Diaz all had two hits. Every starter had at least one hit in the game one win.
Game Two (L/0-5)
DeSales had a chance to close out the series with a game two win, but the Knights pitching staff was up to the task as three players combined to toss a six hit shutout in the 5-0 win.
AU scored once in the first and fourth inning and got some insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to post the final tally.
JuniorÂ
Ryan Rieber was strong on the bump going seven innings allowing just three earned, striking out one.
Leamer had two more hits to lead the offensive attack.
The split gives DSU 20 wins on the season and extends DeSales' streak of winning 20+ games or more in 22 straight seasons and 27 of the last 28 seasons (excluding the shortened season because of the COVID-19 pandemic).
