Hoboken, NJ (September 13, 2022) - The DeSales University volleyball team dropped its MAC Freedom opener, 3-2, at Stevens in a rematch of last season's conference title match on Tuesday evening.

The Basics

• Final Score: Stevens - 3, DeSales - 2 (24-26, 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 15-8)
• Records: DeSales (4-4, 0-1 MAC Freedom); Stevens (7-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom)
• The Bulldogs fall to 1-3 all-time vs. the Ducks following the loss tonight.

How it Happened

• The first set was back and forth featuring 10 ties and four lead changes throughout.
• Stevens led 17-12 before the Bulldogs stormed back with four straight points tying the match at 18 and took seven of eight points to lead 21-19.
• Stevens tied the match at 21 and it remained tied at 24 before two straight Bulldog points gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.
• The Ducks got off to a quick start in set #2 leading 4-0 and never lost the lead in a tight match the rest of the way, 25-20.
• DeSales got off to the quick start in the third set taking a 5-2 lead and extended its lead to 12-5.
• The Ducks climbed back to within one point (19-18) but DSU scored four straight points to lead 23-19 and closed out the set from there.
• The fourth set was closer early (6-5) before six straight points pushed Stevens ahead 12-6 and they never looked back from there in forcing a fifth set.
• The Bulldogs led early in the fifth set (5-3) but Stevens took control with six straight points and DeSales ran out of gas falling in five sets.

Top Bulldog Performers

• First-year Abby Weise led the charge with a team-high 12 kills and 20 digs to go along with three blocks.
• Sophomore Mykenah Calder added 11 kills and 16 digs.
• First-year Madison Swift finished with eight kills and hit .250 for the match adding three blocks.
• Sophomore Paige Lewis and junior Shannon McDevitt each had four blocks.
• First-year Peyton Porterfield led the setters with 17 assists and junior Grace Grandinetti had 14 assists.
• Senior McKenzie Brady finished with 13 digs.

For the Foes

• Cleo Shannon led the Ducks with 20 kills, hitting .293.
• Liz Patterson finished with 16 kills.
• Meg Dion totaled six blocks and Bailey Axelrad had 26 digs.

Inside the Box Score

• DSU had 10 service errors and just three aces in the match.
• After hitting .201 over the first three sets, the Bulldogs hit -.095 over the final two sets.
• Stevens hit .173 for the match.
