Field Hockey Stays Unbeaten in Conference Play with 3-0 Win at Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, PA (September 30, 2022) - The DeSales University field hockey team continued its unbeaten season in MAC Freedom play with a 3-0 win on the road at Wilkes University on Friday evening.

The Basics

  • Records: DeSales (7-2, 3-0 MAC Freedom), Wilkes (2-7, 0-3 MAC Freedom)
  • The win avenges a 4-2 defeat at Wilkes last season and gives DSU a win in the series in four of the last five meetings to improve its all-time mark vs. the Colonels to 6-14.
How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first quarter senior Catie McGrath got DSU on the board back handing a short pass off a rebound in the middle of the circle just over six minutes into the second quarter and that lead stood into the halftime break.
  • Neither team scored in the third quarter as it remained a one-goal game.
  • DeSales got two insurance goals within 1:34 of each other in the fourth as seniors Grace DeThomas and Tyra Wingle each scored to post the eventual final tally.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • McGrath now has three goals on the season and 24 in her career moving into eighth place all-time.
  • DeThomas tallied her second of the year and Wingle posted her team-leading eighth giving her 32 in her career, one shy of fourth place all-time.
  • Junior Maddie Trocki earned an assist on McGrath's goal.
  • Junior Kayla Yeatman made two saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.
For the Foes
  • Carly Eidle made 12 saves for the Colonels in goal.
